LG’s TV App Store – LGAppsTV is now open

Smart TV is the new hot trend in the TV industry and with access to the Internet TV manufacturers hope to take the same route as smartphones did a few years back. LG has announced that their TV App Store * is now available on 2011 TVs with Smart TV. From here you can download new video-on-demand services, games, utilities and much more. LG has now issued a software update that makes the App Store available on all 2011 LG flat panel TVs with Smart TV. In the TV App Store you can download new Apps from different providers. Right now only the international App Store is open but local stores will be rolling out in the coming weeks and months, LG says. You can find Apps such as”Revision3″; an Internet TV channel, mini games, and”Fitness Trainer”; a fitness coach directly on your TV. In addition you have access to services such as YouTube, Facebook and video-on-demand services such as Netflix (only in US). If you have a LCD/LED model with Smart TV from LG’s 2011 line-up you can take a look around in the TV App Store now. If you have a LG plasma-TV from the 2011 line-up you have to wait until later this week or next week to access the TV App Store. * The App store is not available in India as yet. Samsung Sells Two Million Connected TVs in Three Months

According to their corporate blog in Korean , Samsung has officially passed the two million sold mark in just three short months since they launched their latest series of connected TVs with its new Smart Hub. According to figures from The NPD Group, Samsung is the top-selling TV brand in the US with a 24.9% market share in the total flat-panel TV market. Since April, the company says it has sold about 730,000 smart TVs in North America, which boasts the largest TV market globally. Europe has consumed 710,000 of the web-connected and application centric Samsung sets – with significant sales figures seen in the UK, France, Italy and Germany. Samsung also reports 170,000 units have now been sold in the Middle East and Africa, and 270,000 in South East Asia – with sales continuing at pace in both regions. Samsung’s home market of Korea, meanwhile, has so far registered 120,000 sales of its smart TV sets. After the initial rush to buy the connected products when launched in April, Samsung reports steady sales at an average rate of 150,000 units a week, or 22,000 sets a day. UAE controls 60 % of mobile apps development in Middle East, tops list of Arab countries

According to a regional expert,  UAE has captured 60% of the Middle East’s smart phone mobile apps business. 40 % of the smart phone users use between 6 and 10 applications in their daily life “The penetration of these kinds of mobile applications is tremendous in the UAE. The UAE has become a global player, thanks to its openness to the world economically and technologically and its world class infrastructure. The UAE government is now moving aggressively into adopting these applications to provide better services to its customers. One step towards that direction was that Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre hosting the leading m-content global summit. The statistics show that the number of governmental applications in the UAE is between 20 and 25. The majority of the usage of mobile apps in the Arab world pertains to entertainment, such as songs, social news, Al Quran and Islamic lectures, prayer times and Hajri timings. Due to research, 40 percent of the smart phone users are using between six to ten applications in their daily lives.
