The proposed merger of the two government telecom companies, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited, promises to be a rocky journey, say experts. While MTNL offers services in the lucrative Delhi and Mumbai circles, BSNL operates in the rest of the country. The obvious hitch is that MTNL is a listed company and BSNL is not. Bharti Hopes 3G Will Boost Revenue

Bharti Airtel Ltd. said Thursday it expects third-generation services to help improve its average revenue per user–a key gauge of profitability for mobile phone operators. Bharti Airtel, India’s largest mobile phone operator by users, currently offers 3G services in seven cities and plans to extend the service in all the 13 telecom areas where it has bandwidth by the end of this month. Reliance Communications Signs Final Papers For $1.93 Billion Loan

Reliance Communications Ltd. said Wednesday it has signed final papers for a loan of $1.93 billion from Chinese banks and financial institutions. The loan will be used to refinance debt taken previously to pay bandwidth fees and to buy equipment, India’s second-largest mobile phone operator by users said in a statement. The loan matures in 10 years and will help save interest costs, it said. Source
